LONG VERSION: Barbara Gallagher's recordings are widely broadcast on radio stations including Pandora, Accuradio, Lutheran Public Radio, EWTN radio, Sirius/XM, Celtic Radio, iheart, and various religious stations; she composed the theme music for WBPL's "Carolina Catholic" show. Her piano music is featured on Anywhere Artist Christmas Piano app and Digital Media Interactive New Age Piano App for iphones and ipads. Gallagher's compositions have been performed by ensembles such as Wilmington (NC) and Florence (SC) Symphonies, Western Piedmont Youth Symphony, Knox-Galesburg Symphony, Tallis Chamber Orchestra, Duke String School, Cape Fear Community College Orchestra, and San Domenico Virtuoso Players (CA), as well as by Irish harpist and international recording artist Diana Rowan, and her cello ensemble music is regularly performed by numerous community and university ensembles.
Gallagher's music is in contract with music houses such as Dramaking, Platinum Music (UK) and Transition Music Corp., and is published by Hal Leonard Corp., Lassus Publications, G.I.A. Inc., and Linden Brass Press (Canada); commissions include Florence Symphony for the Inaugural concert of the opening of the Francis Marion Performing Arts Center (with support of Florence School District One DOME program), New Onyx Theater (with support of Meet the Composer) and Exilir Films. An ASCAP member and recipient of many awards, including ASCAP Plus Award, she composes piano music, songs in classical, broadway and pop styles, as well as orchestral and chamber instrumental pieces and religious music.
At Belmont Abbey College, she studied piano with Fr. Kenneth Geyer, followed by attending U.N.C. School of the Arts (B.M.), studying composition with Sherwood Shaffer and Robert Ward as a Giannini Scholar. She then attended The Juilliard School (M.M), where she held the Irving Berlin Fellowship in memory of Jerome Kern, studying with Vincent Persichetti. Upon graduation from Juilliard, she was awarded the Peter David Faith Memorial Prize, and was a teaching fellow in Ear-training and Solfege, assisting Dept. Chair Mary Anthony Cox. In New York, she served as house pianist for Manhattan Savings Bank and workshop artist for Hospital Audiences, Inc., and studied organ and church music with Marsha H. Long. Additional study took place at NPM Chant School for Gregorian Chant notation and performance at St. Meinrad Monastery in Indiana.
Currently residing in Wilmington, NC, she teaches privately and for over two decades, produced the "ComposerWorks" concert series, which presented works by North Carolina composers. She has served as Accompanist Coordinator for the Carolina Ballet's Summer Intensive at UNC-W, Composer-in-Residence for Magic Trunk Theater Company, Instructor at Cape Fear and Brunswick Community Colleges, and is a longtime church musician, serving at various local churches. In addition to her musical activities, she writes song lyrics and has written articles for publications such as "Pastoral Music" magazine and "Hearing Health"; as a hearing-impaired musician, she advocates for greater accessibility to music and speech for those with hearing loss. Additional studies include graduate coursework in East Carolina University's Department of Technical and Professional Communication. ****************************************************************************

She has played piano in clubs, restaurants, hotels, concert halls, churches, outdoor festivals, and nursing homes. She enjoys helping other people realize their musical aspirations through her teaching, educational compositions, and concert-producing, and as a hearing-impaired musician, advocates for greater accessibility to music and speech for those with hearing loss. Barbara also writes symphonic music which is regularly performed by many orchestras, and is co-writer of several musicals, some of which she hopes to eventually see on Broadway. ****************************************************************************
